Belmont Advanced Wastewater Treatment Plant
Owner: Indianapolis DPW
Location: Indianapolis, IN
Infrastructure Engineering, Inc. provided the storm water management design and site development. In order to minimize the construction cost and to avoid the lengthy environmental permit process, IEI reused almost 500,000 cubic yards of incinerated ash, which had accumulated from decades of operations of the plant by constructing landscaped berms around the entire site which not only eliminated the need for offsite disposal, but also provided a landscaped buffer for the plant from adjacent property owners and heavily traveled thoroughfare.
IEI designed a new trash drop-off facility for citizens which streamlined the operations and also improved safety. The design also included development of the master drainage plan for the northern half of the plant with a new storm sewer along with a water quality structure to comply with the current City of Indianapolis Water Quality Standards.
