Metra Electric District South Chicago Line Corridor Analysis and Station Rehabilitation
Prior to the design project, IEI served as the lead civil/transportation engineering firm for the Rail Corridor Study for the project. This effort included the study of existing and proposed station locations in relationship with community development plans and related traffic/transportation impacts.
IEI designed improvements for intermodal access and connectivity. IEI also provided site development engineering services for the rehabilitation of the following six commuter rail stations:
- Bryn Mawr
- 75th Street Windsor Park
- 79th Street Cheltenham
- Stony Island
- 83rd Street
- 87th Street
The project objectives were focused on improving commuter service by upgrading the stations and their parking facilities; improving public safety by reducing the dangers presented by grade crossings; and reinforcing revitalization efforts undertaken by the City of Chicago.
