Wacker Drive Viaduct Utility Relocation
Owner: Chicago Department of Transportation
Location: Chicago, IL
Starting in 2010, CDOT plans to reconstruct the upper and lower levels of Wacker Drive from Randolph to Congress Parkway. As a prime consultant, IEI is providing resident engineering and construction inspection services for the relocation of public utilities, which are being relocated prior to the Reconstruction of the Wacker Drive Viaduct, a reinforced concrete multi-span structure.
For the past 80 years, Wacker Drive has been a major roadway in the heart of downtown Chicago. As of 2009, approximately 60,000 vehicles travel daily on the upper and lower levels of this road. The reconstruction project will provide a safer, more efficient roadway to benefit motorists and pedestrians.
