As a valued Intern at IEI, you can look forward to participating in an eight-week program to gain hands-on experience working on Construction, Civil/Structural, and Design Projects under the supervision of our leading professionals. This internship will provide exposure to real projects and the opportunity to work alongside senior staff, build your skills, ask questions, and benefit from their extensive knowledge.

IEI Successful Interns
- Commitment to complete the full program is required: June 17th – August 9th, 2024
- Rising Juniors and Seniors with an undergraduate degree expected between December 2024 and June 2025 with a focus on Civil, Structural, Construction Management or a related field
- Seeking ambitious, aspiring future leaders who are inquisitive and looking to spread their professional wings
- Ready to have effective communication skills and the ability to engage with a variety of stakeholders (e.g., internal, external, Project Managers, Project Engineers, Designers, and non-technical people)
- Prefer interns within IEI Market areas; Chicago, Indianapolis, Peoria, New York, New Jersey, Detroit, Houston
What You’ll Do
- Our interns work full time, 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday, during the 8 weeks internship program
- The internship program gives you early access to our full-time post-graduation opportunities
- Interns work on-site 4-days per week to build relationships, collaborate, and access on-site resources
- Practical experience includes (but is not limited to):

- View and measure on construction site
- Modify existing drawings
- Attend design staff meetings
- Create basic Excel tables
- Organization management – scan and file projects
- Transfer markups to Adobe pdf
- Review existing conditions and existing site photo
- Gain AutoCAD experience
- Assist the Project Managers and Project Engineers in reviewing complaints and resolving problems
- Visit Project Site with Senior Staff
- Perform compilation of data and assist in converting the compiled data into plans
- Learn to estimate materials cost
- Learn to interpret technical documents
- Develop knowledge of engineering standards, as well as state and local regulations
- The IEI Internship program offers exposure to a blend of field and office knowledge
