About
Our Story
Today, we are a leading engineering firm known for quality and responsiveness; we also have a proven track record of success as a Prime civil engineering firm. You could say that overcoming challenges has been our story since day one. Which explains why we’re so good at resolving our client’s problems.
From a small civil engineering firm purchased by Michael Sutton, P.E., in 1997, we faced initial resistance as an unproven, minority-owned DBE until we could prove ourselves through performance. And we have.
In 1998 we changed the company name to Infrastructure Engineering, Inc. to better reflect the work we pursue. We’ve performed civil and structural engineering for complex highway, railway, water management, mass transit and airport projects. We’ve completed both vital and high profile, world-class developments. Along the way, we’ve developed a reputation for INGENUITY in our solutions. As we grow, we look for new opportunities to partner with our clients. Their success is our ultimate goal; it’s how we measure our own.
Our clients benefit from the combined expertise of our leadership TEAM and over 170 diverse and talented engineers who work in 8 offices in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Texas, and Georgia.
Through the Infrastructure Engineering Foundation, we support the communities where we live and work.

Our Team
DRIVEN BY INSPIRING LEADERSHIP
Our firm is managed by a diverse group of executives and senior leaders who exemplify the characteristics that IEI strives to embody each day and with each project—demonstrating value through proven experience, and relationship-driven management.
Our Community Support
Employees and the firm contribute to many community organizations as we embrace a culture of paying it forward. The giving includes founding a philanthropic arm of the firm — Infrastructure Engineering Foundation formerly Universal Agape Foundation. IEI President and CEO Michael Sutton, a former resident of economically challenged communities, created it to “give back.”
The Foundation supports programs and experiences for disadvantaged children and families.
Our Offices
The proof of our quality performance is made evident through the numerous world-class projects we’ve delivered from our six offices.
