Cermak Road Vertical Clearance Improvement
This task order through the Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT), involved the reconstruction of West Cermak Road, between S. Kilbourn Ave. and 47th St. This project entailed a major renovation of Cermak Road to increase the vertical clearance at the Kenton Avenue Beltline Railroad viaduct by 14” from 13’-5” to 14’-7”, to allow safer passage for trucks going to and from adjacent commercial and industrial areas. Other aspects of the project included improvement of the storm sewer system to avoid potential flooding of the Town of Cicero and City of Chicago under the viaduct, reconstruction of pavement, sidewalks, pavement medians and new trees. Safety enhancements included the installation of new street lighting, ADA ramps, new roadway signs, pavement markings, the addition of PCC (Portland Cement Concrete) crash walls, impact attenuators and pipe handrails.
As the prime consultant, Infrastructure Engineering Inc. (IEI) provided construction inspection.
