Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways (CCDOTH) Design Engineering Services
Infrastructure Engineering Inc. (IEI) provided engineering services for over 30 work orders that included various components throughout Cook County.
The various work order tasks included the design and preparation of contract documents, plans, specifications, and cost estimates, for ten roadway improvement projects involving pavement rehabilitation, median removal, curb and gutter replacement, guardrail removal and reinstallation, pavement markings and signage, traffic signals, construction staging and maintenance of traffic, ADA-compliant ramp replacements, culvert replacements, drainage improvements, and permitting. The team also conducted a stormwater management feasibility study to evaluate existing flooding issues within the area bounded by 156th Street, 167th Street, I-294, and Park Avenue in the Cities of Markham and Harvey, identifying alternative solutions to mitigate flooding following major rain events in coordination with the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD).
Additional efforts included conducting drainage permit and plan reviews for Cook County over a four-year period to ensure compliance with ordinance requirements, as well as building and zoning permit reviews for the Cook County Department of Building and Zoning over three years to confirm adherence to applicable regulations. The team performed inspections of approximately 750 cross culverts, each 15 inches in diameter or larger, and prepared corresponding reports. Furthermore, 30% design plans, specifications, and construction cost estimates were developed for the build-out of fiber-optic lateral segments branching from an existing backbone, supporting design-build contracts encompassing over 18 miles of fiber-optic lines across 19 communities.
