CTA Red Line Extension
IEI is part of the REDifine Southside Partner Team, a tri-venture prime consultant team with WSP and Patrick Engineering, charged with delivering Construction Management for the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) Red Line Extension (RLE), a transformative 5.6-mile project extending the Red Line from 95th Street to 130th Street. Set to be completed by 2030, this expansion will include four new stations at 103rd Street, 111th Street, Michigan Avenue, and 130th Street.
The RLE is the largest project in CTA history and is designed to improve access and provide faster connections from the Far South Side to the rest of the city. With this new infrastructure, riders can save up to 30 minutes when traveling from the 130th Street Station to the Loop. The project represents an estimated 12,000+ RLE construction jobs and 59,000+ jobs indirectly added because of the project.
More than new infrastructure, this project creates equitable access to education, jobs, healthcare, and cultural amenities for the historically under-invested Far South Side community.
Additionally, IEI is managing utility coordination and designing water, sanitary sewer, and gas services for the RLE 120th Street Yard and Shop Project, addressing utility conflicts and securing approvals from the Chicago Department of Water Management and Peoples Gas.
IEI’s initial participation in the RLE Project was to coordinate utilities and develop base mapping, including necessary cross streets and four new stations, along the 5.6-mile urban corridor.
