Manhattan Bridge Rehabilitation

Manhattan Bridge Rehabilitation

The New York City Department of Transportation (NYCDOT) carried out a $76M project to rehabilitate the iconic Manhattan Bridge.  As the structural design consultant on the construction team, IEI was responsible for two designs 1). The design of bearing stools to provide step by step procedures, repair documents, and calculations at various locations on the Manhattan Bridge and 2). The design of temporary support for the repair of a vertical gusset plate that includes design documents and calculation to support live loads from the MTA subway and Manhattan Bridge roadway. Construction will be completed 2021 after the review and approval of NYCDOT. The Manhattan Bridge that was originally built in 1909 is the most traveled bridge of the East Rivers bridges.
