After more than seven decades of service to the Peoria Metropolitan Area and supporting over 20,000 eastbound trips per day, the Illinois Department of Transportation, in cooperation with the Federal Highway Administration, determined that the aging Eastbound US 150 (McClugage) Bridge required replacement. The project aimed to improve capacity, enhance safety, reduce travel times, and provide multimodal accommodations for bicyclists and pedestrians.
IEI participated as part of the team providing Phase III construction inspection services for the new Eastbound US 150 bridge over the Illinois River. The replacement structure consisted of a 23-span tied arch bridge supported on steel pile and drilled shaft foundations with reinforced concrete piers and abutments. The project also included a new 2-span structure carrying US 150 Eastbound over IL 29 and a 55-foot reinforced concrete double box culvert, along with associated roadway approach work such as earthwork, drainage improvements, and PCC and HMA pavement construction.
IEI provided full-time construction inspection services, including daily and nightly field inspections, coordination with the contractor, client, and utility companies, quantity measurements and layout verification, oversight of design changes, and preparation of project documentation such as pay estimates, change orders, and construction records in accordance with state specifications.
