Boulevard System Improvements
The Chicago Boulevard System is 28 miles of connected roadways located in the north, west and south sides of the City of Chicago with segments under City or State jurisdictions. It consists of wide, multi-lane arterial thoroughfare, non-truck routes often divided with wide landscaped medians for bicycle and pedestrian usage. The 28-mile system will be addressed in two-mile segments over the course of the project. Independence Blvd. is the first segment to be improved.
IEI’s overall scope involves initial data collection and review to determine the prioritization of improvements, inclusive of assessing the needs/potential for landscaping, complete streets, curb ramp and sideway ADA compliance, drainage and pavement markings, and signage enhancements. Once the data is analyzed, CDOT will review and approve the official scope and Phase II engineering services will be conducted. IEI will also lead Phase II services, which will include project management and administration for the ongoing design of the boulevard segments, public involvement and outreach, detailed design through 100% plans, and all stakeholder coordination for the first segment.
