About
Our Story

In 1997, our founder, Michael Sutton, PE, purchased a small engineering firm in Chicago. In 1998, we changed the company name to Infrastructure Engineering Inc. (IEI) to better reflect the work we deliver. We partner with public agencies and private owners of all sizes to reduce risk, compress schedules, and keep critical infrastructure and communities moving. We deliver civil and structural engineering solutions for complex highway, roadway, streetscape, bridge, water management, mass transit, and aviation projects.
Our approach has earned us multiple industry awards for both engineering solutions and our company culture. IEI values our clients, partners, and employees because these relationships allow us to live our mission of connecting communities through every project we deliver.
Our clients benefit from the combination of our experienced leadership TEAM and the group of diverse, talented professionals working across ten offices in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Texas, Georgia, and California.
Through the Infrastructure Engineering Foundation, we support the communities where we live and work.
MISSION: CONNECTING COMMUNITIES
We exist to transform, inspire, and enrich communities by reimagining infrastructure.
VISION: ENGINEERING EXCELLENCE
Outstanding employees working together to create a greater presence in the communities where IEI operates and are valued by our clients for engineering excellence.

Our Principals

Our Community Support
At IEI we embrace a culture of paying it forward. The firm and our employees contribute to community organizations through the philanthropic arm of the firm, the Infrastructure Engineering Foundation, formerly named the Universal Agape Foundation. IEI CEO Michael Sutton, a former resident of economically challenged communities, created the foundation to “give back.”
Our Offices
Our quality performance is evident through the world-class projects we have delivered.
