About
Our Story
From a small civil engineering firm purchased by Michael Sutton, P.E., in 1997, we faced initial resistance as an unproven, minority-owned DBE firm, until we could prove ourselves through performance. And we have.
Today, we are a leading engineering firm known for quality and responsiveness; we also have a proven track record of success as a prime consultant. Overcoming challenges has been our story since day one, and we continue by delivering engineering solutions to our clients.
In 1998 we changed the company name to Infrastructure Engineering Inc. to better reflect the work we pursue. We’ve delivered civil and structural engineering for complex highway, railway, water management, mass transit and airport projects, partnering with our clients on vital and high-profile projects. Along the way, we’ve developed a reputation for INGENUITY in our solutions. As we grow, we look for new opportunities to partner with our clients. Their success is our ultimate goal; it’s how we measure our own.
Our clients benefit from the combined expertise of our leadership TEAM and the diverse and talented engineers who work in 8 offices in the states of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Texas, and Georgia.
Through the Infrastructure Engineering Foundation, we support the communities where we live and work.

Our Community Support
At IEI we embrace a culture of paying it forward. The firm and our employees contribute to community organizations through the philanthropic arm of the firm, the Infrastructure Engineering Foundation, formerly named the Universal Agape Foundation. IEI CEO Michael Sutton, a former resident of economically challenged communities, created the foundation to “give back.”
